Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has held a series of technical sessions with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and other partners in Paris, France, as efforts intensify to actualise the Ibom Deep Sea Port project.

The engagements focused on accelerating the delivery of the multi-billion-dollar maritime project, which is expected to position Akwa Ibom as a major trade and logistics hub in West Africa.

According to information made available in Uyo, the meetings reviewed the recently submitted Technical Feasibility Report prepared by global engineering firm Worley Parsons.

The sessions also examined key issues relating to investment opportunities, project implementation strategies and long-term sustainability of the Ibom Deep Sea Port.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, Governor Eno stressed the need to move the project beyond the planning stage.

He reportedly demanded clear timelines, defined milestones and practical steps that would ensure the speedy execution of the project.

The statement noted that the Akwa Ibom State Government and its prospective partners reaffirmed their commitment to the successful delivery of the Ibom Deep Sea Port initiative.

According to the government, the project is a landmark Blue Economy investment with the capacity to transform the state into a leading maritime, trade and logistics centre in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Commissioner for Information disclosed that Governor Umo Eno was accompanied to France by the Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Mfon Usoro.

Other members of the delegation include the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong; and the Managing Director of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko.

Several other officials and technical experts are also part of the delegation currently holding discussions with project partners in France.

The Ibom Deep Sea Port project is expected to attract local and foreign investments, create jobs and boost maritime activities in Nigeria’s South-South region.

Industry stakeholders believe the port will enhance international trade, improve logistics infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a key shipping destination in the Gulf of Guinea.
