How Yahoo Boys, Intruders Invaded AAU, Led to Killing — VC

EKOPMA:  The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Olowo Samuel, has linked the recent deployment of heavy security personnel on campus to a killing incident involving intruders and the activities of internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Prof. Samuel clarified that the victim of the killing was not a student of the institution, contrary to reports circulating within and outside the university.

Recently, some intruders forced their way into the university. One such incident was the killing of an unidentified man. Police reports confirmed that the deceased was not our student.

He was brought into the campus in a vehicle, assaulted in front of one of the hostels, and later taken into the bush where he was killed, the Vice-Chancellor stated.

He added that arrests have already been made in connection with the case, with the suspects transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Benin City for further investigation.

Prof. Samuel also raised concerns over the increasing use of the university environment by internet fraudsters.

Some unscrupulous individuals have turned the university premises into a hideout for cybercrime operations. This is unacceptable, which is why management resolved to tighten security measures on campus.

We have also banned students from driving into the university compound to enhance safety,” he said.

The Acting VC assured that the institution remains committed to protecting the lives of students, staff, and visitors while working closely with security agencies to rid the campus of criminal elements.
