The United States Mission in Nigeria has cautioned that visa overstays by some Nigerian travellers could negatively impact opportunities for other citizens seeking entry into the US, stressing that compliance with visa conditions is essential.
The warning was issued in a statement shared on the Mission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, highlighting that individual actions can have broader consequences for Nigerians travelling for education, business, or family visits.
According to the Mission, visa overstays by a few travellers may reduce access for legitimate applicants, urging Nigerians to respect visa rules to help sustain favourable travel prospects.
It noted that strict adherence to visa conditions helps maintain trust in the visa application process and protects opportunities for responsible travellers.
The Mission also encouraged the public to report suspected visa fraud, providing official email contacts for such reports.
The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by US authorities to curb immigration violations and promote lawful travel practices, with visa compliance often considered in evaluating a country’s overall travel credibility.
