Suspected kidnappers have killed a commercial bus driver and abducted several passengers along a highway in Edo State.
The bus, which was travelling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country, reportedly came under heavy gunfire, forcing it to stop before the attackers struck.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Assistant Superintendent Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred within the Iguobazuwa axis.
She disclosed that security operatives have begun a coordinated search operation to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.
The Commissioner of Police has directed adjoining divisions to join in the bush combing efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators,” she said
Authorities also stated that additional measures are being implemented to improve safety along the affected highway, amid growing concerns over rising cases of kidnapping and violent attacks on inter-state routes
