ASABA: Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has emerged as the new President of the Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF).
The election, which took place on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, was conducted under a transparent, peaceful, and inclusive atmosphere.
Ochei won with 11 votes to lead the Federation for the next four years, while Mr. Datti was elected unopposed as Vice President.
In his post-election speech, Ochei expressed deep appreciation to his supporters and stakeholders for their trust and commitment throughout the process.
First and foremost, to the glory of God, it was an election where we all campaigned, and we all won together.
This outcome clearly demonstrates that the Federation is one family. Though there is a winner, for me, there’s no victor and no vanquished,” he said.
He pledged to unite all stakeholders toward developing tennis across the country, emphasizing that the focus now should be on revitalizing the sport.
Every process that led to this point is behind us. What’s more important is what we do moving forward. By God’s grace, we’ll activate the entire tennis ecosystem and ensure everyone contributes meaningfully. Our goal is to take Nigerian tennis to the next level,” he added.
Ochei also outlined plans to restructure the Federation for improved efficiency and growth. We intend to review and repackage the existing structure to ensure seamless operations across all organs of the Federation.
With the right influence, sponsorships, and funding, we will create career opportunities for players and coaches. The positive changes will be visible in the short term,” he assured.
Following his emergence, stakeholders expressed optimism that Ochei’s leadership will usher in a new era of progress, grassroots development, and professionalism in Nigerian tennis.
