FG Increases NYSC Members Monthly Allowance To ₦77,000

ABUJA: The Federal Government has officially approved the increase of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000 with effect from July 2024.

This was disclosed in a press statement released via its X handle(formerly twitter) on Wednesday night.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) spokesperson, Caroline Embu, stated this in a statement on Wednesday that the increase was in accordance with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024’s law.

Embu cited a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which was signed by Ekpo Nta, the Commission’s chairman, and dated September 25, 2024.

“Before this, the Chairman had received a visit from the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, who lobbied for a comprehensive welfare package for Corps Members.

The Corps Members’ monthly allowance was ₦33,000 prior to this adjustment.
Months after a new minimum wage law of ₦30,000 was approved in 2020, the NYSC increased the allowances of corps members from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000.

President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law in late July, putting an end to months of negotiations between the government, unions, and the private sector.

A few days after the National Assembly passed the Minimum Wage Act, 2019 to raise the National Minimum Wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, he signed it into law at the presidential villa, Abuja.
