Family in Tears as British Woman Who Relocated to Nigeria Dies With Unborn Child

A 40-year-old British woman, Claire Chadwick, and her unborn baby girl have died in Nigeria after she reportedly developed a severe infection that led to septic shock, leaving her family devastated and seeking financial assistance to return their remains to the United Kingdom for burial.

Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant, reportedly suffered complications after her baby died in the womb. Her condition subsequently deteriorated, resulting in septic shock and her death.

According to a report by the UK-based Daily Mail, Chadwick had relocated to Nigeria to begin a new life with her husband, Ibrahim, and was expecting their first child together.

The British woman had gained a following on social media, particularly TikTok and Instagram, where she shared videos documenting her relationship, religious beliefs and food challenges.

Her death has left her family in deep mourning, particularly her relatives in Wales, where she is survived by her 19-year-old son, alongside her husband and other family members.

Her sister, Shannon, described Claire as a funny, strong-willed woman who lived life according to her own principles and was never afraid to express herself.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Shannon said her late sister had a distinctive personality and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She was a woman who lived her life in her own way and she will leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew her, she said.

Family Launches £10,000 Fundraiser

Following the tragic deaths, Chadwick’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a fundraising target of £10,000 to cover the cost of repatriating her body and that of her unborn daughter to the United Kingdom.

The family explained that bringing both bodies home would enable relatives and loved ones to give them a dignified burial surrounded by family members.

Shannon said the family’s greatest wish was to have her sister and the unborn baby returned to the UK so they could be laid to rest with the love and respect they deserved.

“More than anything, we want them both returned so they can be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by the family who love them,” she said.

The fundraising campaign has reportedly attracted considerable support from members of the public, with Shannon describing the response as overwhelming.

She also expressed appreciation to REST, a charity that provides support to families dealing with sudden or tragic deaths of loved ones overseas.

Meanwhile, friends, relatives and well-wishers have continued to pay tribute to Chadwick, remembering her as a cheerful, caring and kind-hearted woman who brought happiness to those around her.

One supporter, who said they had known her since childhood, described her as a lovely person, while another expressed deep sadness over her death, recalling how she regularly made people laugh.

The family is hoping to raise sufficient funds to facilitate the return of Claire and her unborn daughter to the United Kingdom, where they can be given a befitting burial.

The tragedy has also highlighted the emotional and financial difficulties families can face when loved ones die unexpectedly while living or travelling abroad.
