ENUGU: The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a woman, Okonkwo Chisom, for allegedly making false claims that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, defiled their two daughters aged five and three.
In a statement released on Thursday, November 13, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the suspect had reported the alleged defilement to the Emene Police Division in November 2025, claiming her husband also threatened to kill her if she exposed him.
However, a detailed investigation reportedly uncovered that Chisom’s allegations were fabricated.
Police findings showed that the periods during which she claimed the offences occurred were the same times she had travelled alone with the children to their hometown in Imo State.
Ndukwe added that in two separate voluntary statements, the couple’s seven-year-old son exonerated his father and revealed that their mother had coached him and his sisters to lie against their father. This confession was further supported by video evidence.
Upon realizing that her deception had been uncovered, Chisom allegedly tried to withdraw the case and stop further investigation.
She was later arraigned before an Enugu State Magistrate Court on charges of defamation and giving false information.
The court granted her bail and adjourned the case for further hearing.
Commending the detectives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to justice and fairness, warning that anyone found to have made false or malicious allegations would face the full weight of the law.
