Eight Miscreants Jailed Six Months for Phone Snatching in Lagos

LAGOS: Eight suspected miscreants have been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment each for stealing mobile phones in Lagos State.

The suspects were arrested on Thursday, November 13, 2025, after operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) carried out a morning raid on the pedestrian bridge at the Mile 2 axis, where they were reportedly snatching phones from unsuspecting commuters.

Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement shared on his X handle that the suspects were immediately charged to court.

The convicted individuals are Anthony Osinachi (21), Victor Onuoha (45), Rowland Ede (25), Daniel Chisom (24), Emmanuel Chukwu (35), Ogbonnaya Uchechi (18), Godday Eke (28), and Benjamin G. (30).

According to Wahab, the suspects were arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi, where they all pleaded guilty to the charges and were subsequently sentenced to six months in prison.

The 8 miscreants arrested earlier today for snatching phones on the pedestrian bridge of Mile 2 Bridge were arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, pled guilty and were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment Wahab wrote.

The Commissioner also commended LAGESC operatives for their timely response and urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities in their communities.
