KANO: The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed deep concern over Nigerians’ severe economic hardships.

The outspoken Royal father of Kano emirate made the statement on Thursday  during a ceremony for the distribution of free fertilizers to 52,800 small holder farmers across Kano State’s 44 local government areas/

Speaking at an occasion at Government House alongside the newly appointed second-class Emirs of Karaye and Gaya, Sanusi stressed the awful situations that many Nigerians find themselves in.

The situation facing Nigerians is grave. I know that with the rising cost of food, people are now buying half pepper. It is unacceptable, but I do think that people may find some alleviation with efforts like these,” he said.

The initiative, which aims to alleviate economic hardship and promote food security, will see each farmer, including women and persons living with disabilities, receive 25kg of fertiliser.

The Emir thank the Kano State Government for the initiative but urged further action to mitigate the ongoing economic challenges. of the people.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, in the sane vain said, “We are determined to support our farmers and ensure that food is available and affordable for all.”

The Emirs of Gaya and Karaye also voiced express their their support for the programme. The newly appointed Emir of Gaya, Ali Ibrahim, said, “This distribution of fertiliser will significantly contribute to food security in our state.” while the Emir of Karaye, Mahammad Mahraz, said that the initiative would benefit the farming community.
