DSS Rearrests Malami’s Son at Kuje Prison After Attempted Sneak-Out

ABUJA: Abdulaziz Malami, son of former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, was rearrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, after attempts to secure his release outside formal court procedures.

The incident occurred when court bailiffs from the Federal High Court arrived with fully processed bail documents.

Sources said Malami allegedly insisted his son be moved out quietly, prompting DSS operatives, who had heightened surveillance around the prison, to intercept and rearrest Abdulaziz.

Security sources described the move as a response to intelligence reports suggesting irregular efforts in handling Abdulaziz’s release.

Earlier, Abdulaziz had been admitted to the prison clinic in late December after falling ill amid ongoing legal proceedings.

He, his father, and Malami’s wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, face a 16-count money laundering charge involving ₦8.7 billion.

The charges allege the family used companies, properties, and financial transactions to launder funds while Malami was in office.

Despite the allegations, all three defendants pleaded not guilty, and the trial continues under tight DSS security to prevent any interference with the investigation.
