ASABA: The Delta State Government has approved the disbursement of the 2025 bursary awards for students of Delta origin studying in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Godfrey Enita, confirmed the development during a meeting with leaders of the National Association of Delta State Students.
He explained that the approval also covers scholarships for students with disabilities, children of deceased civil servants, and financial assistance for Delta State students attending Nigerian Law Schools.
Enita stated that the initiative is intended to reduce the financial burden on students and their families, particularly in light of current economic challenges.
He added that processing of the approved bursaries and scholarships has already commenced following concerns raised by students about delays in payment.
According to the board, a total of 33,064 students will benefit from the bursary scheme. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students living with disabilities will receive scholarships, while 533 Law School students will benefit from special financial assistance earlier approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Enita emphasised that the administration places strong priority on education as a key driver of sustainable development and human capital growth in the state.
Leaders of the student association welcomed the approval, describing it as timely and impactful. They commended the governor for his continued support for students’ welfare and pledged ongoing cooperation with the state government.
