ASABA: Ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of the 1st to 8th Delta State House of Assembly both serving and former have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their preferred candidates for the presidential and governorship polls.
The decision was reached during an extraordinary convergence in Asaba, presided over by the Speaker of the 8th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor. Lawmakers also passed a vote of implicit confidence” in both leaders.
The motion for endorsement was moved by Rt. Hon. Halims Agoda, a pioneer Assembly member and former federal legislator, and was seconded by Hon. Kris Njokwuemeni of the 2nd Assembly.
The resolution received unanimous approval from attendees, collectively known as Non-Sitting Members.
The announcement served as the highlight of the maiden Delta State House of Assembly Speaker’s Annual Leadership Series, themed Leadership Dynamics in the Delta State House of Assembly: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.
In his keynote address, Speaker Guwor emphasised the importance of legislative harmony as a foundation for inclusive governance.
This moment is significant because every Assembly represented here today, from the First Assembly of 1992 to the Seventh Assembly that preceded ours, has contributed immensely to shaping the democratic journey of Delta State,
Several former lawmakers including Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Frank Enekorogha, Emmanuel Okoro, Basil Ganagana, Ovie Agas, Funkekeme Solomon, Orezi Esievo, Anthony Elekeokwuri, and Johnson Erijo praised the Speaker for convening the unique gathering.
They noted that the meeting would foster political cohesion and create a platform for shared legislative insights across generations.
Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, who chaired the organizing committee, described the session as unprecedented in Nigeria’s legislative history. He commended participants for their unity and enthusiasm, calling the occasion evergreen.
Meanwhile, key stakeholders of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State have also thrown their weight behind President Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of 2027.
Delegates from all six geopolitical zones in the state adopted the resolution during the handover of the Renewed Hope Sensitization Office in Dutse, donated by Hon.
Bashir Gumel, a member of the APC National Working Committee and National Financial Secretary.
Gumel, in a statement released in Abuja, said it was important to document the President’s projects and achievements across Jigawa State.
Addressing supporters in Dutse and Kafinhausa, he pledged to equip the sensitization office to effectively collate and publicise the administration’s programmes as part of efforts to mobilize grassroots support for the 2027 elections.
