Delta Ibo Women Association USA Empowers Umunede Women with Business Grants

UMUNEDE: The Delta Ibo Women Association (DIWA), USA, Inc., a non-governmental organization incorporated in 2018 in the United States of America, has once again demonstrated its commitment to uplifting women in Delta State through a major empowerment initiative.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, eleven women from Umunede, Ika North-East Local Government Area, received business support funds from the association. The program, held at the Nwaham compound, Agbor Road, Idumu Ile, Umunede, was aimed at enabling the beneficiaries, mostly widows, mothers, sisters, and wives to either start small businesses or expand existing ones.

Speaking via a recorded voice message from the United States, the Vice President of DIWA, Barrister Mrs. Prisca Nketeh (née Nwaham), who hails from Umunede and is married to Engineer Henry Nketeh of Ibusa, expressed gratitude to the beneficiaries for honoring the invitation.

She emphasized that the empowerment scheme was carefully planned, and that the beneficiaries were thoroughly screened before being selected.

She cautioned the women against squandering the funds, stressing that the money was strictly for business purposes.

“DO NOT USE THIS MONEY TO BUY CLOTHES OR GIVE AWAY AS GIFTS. USE IT TO START A BUSINESS OR SUPPORT THE ONE YOU ALREADY HAVE. MANY NIGERIAN ENTREPRENEURS STARTED SMALL AND GREW WITH DISCIPLINE; NEVER DESPISE LITTLE BEGINNINGS. MAKE THE BEST USE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY, BECAUSE YOU DON’T KNOW WHEN SUCH SUPPORT WILL COME AGAIN,” BARRISTER NKETEH ADVISED”.

She also congratulated the beneficiaries and thanked those who represented her at the event, noting that the initiative was a way of giving back to her community.

Some of the beneficiaries included Mrs. Omene Kidochukwu Peace, Mrs. Ayo Stella Ijebor, Mrs. Patricia Obiegeli Obeh, Mrs. Cynthia Loveth Osogun, Peace Nneka Okeonye, Joy Kido Ezekiel, Ahanor Alestina, and Mrs. Nkiru Mordi.

One of the beneficiaries, who spoke after receiving a cash alert of ₦300,000, expressed surprise and joy. She thanked DIWA, prayed for Barrister Nketeh and the association’s leadership, and described the gesture as life changing.

The program ended with singing, dancing, and light refreshments, as the women celebrated what they described as an uncommon act of generosity.

DIWA’s Broader Impact

Beyond this Umunede empowerment, DIWA has carried out several humanitarian projects in Delta State, including:

*Award of full university scholarships to four underprivileged students.

*Donations to orphanages across the state and beyond.

*Distribution of palliatives to different communities.
