LAGOS: The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos has rescinded the bench warrant issued against the former Managing Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Ahmed Kuru, who had been absent at his arraignment in a ₦76 billion fraud case.
Justice Mojisola Dada made the ruling after considering the apology and submission from Kuru’s counsel, Olasupo Shasore (SAN). In her brief ruling, JustIce Dada stated, In view of the attendance of the second defendant in court and the undertaken signed by the learned silk to ensure his attendance in court at any given time, and with no objection from the prosecution, the second defendant’s application of motion on notice is hereby granted, and the bench warrant set aside.
The court has adjourned the case until January 20, 2025, for the arraignment of the defendants.
Shasore had, in his application filed on December 12, assured the court that Kuru would be present for the January 2025 proceedings, committing to ensure his client’s attendance at future hearings.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN), expressed no objection to the motion, noting that Kuru’s legal counsel had made the necessary assurances.
The bench warrant had been issued on December 3 after Kuru failed to appear in court for his arraignment, prompting the EFCC to seek his arrest. Kuru is facing charges alongside other individuals, including Arik Air MD Captain Roy Ilegbodu and receiver-manager Kamilu Omokide, in relation to alleged fraud involving ₦76 billion and $31.5 million.
