Charly Boy : Bus Stop Name Change Doesn’t Matter – Free, Fair Elections in 2027 Should Be Our Focus

LAGOS: Popular music icon and activist Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy or the Area Father, has dismissed concerns over the renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop in Gbagada, Lagos, to Baddo Bus Stop.

In a today’s interview with Channels TV, Charly Boy stated that the name change is insignificant compared to the pressing issues facing Nigerians today.

We should be talking about the federal government conducting free and fair elections in 2027, not getting distracted by tribal sentiments or meaningless changes like renaming a bus stop, he said.

According to him, the bus stop was originally named in his honour because of his contributions to the Gbagada community, where he once lived, specifically by that very junction.

He added that his legacy led to the creation of the Charly Boy Foundation, which has empowered many youths across Nigeria, particularly in the southwest, far beyond his own Igbo ethnic group.

When asked about his political stance, Charly Boy reaffirmed his support for Peter Obi, saying his preference is based on Obi’s production over consumption economic vision, which aligns with his hope for Nigeria. I have no regrets supporting Obi,  he said.

On whether he would support President Bola Tinubu, Charly Boy responded bluntly:No, without offering further explanation.

He also revealed he has a new book titled “999” coming soon and showed a tattoo with the number 999 on the back of his right palm, calling it a thing of the spirit.

Reflecting on family, he spoke proudly of his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, saying his parents lived with him for nearly two decades before their passing.

Charly Boy concluded by urging the government to reduce fuel prices and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
