Champions League: Bayern Munich edge Real Madrid 2-1 as Arsenal beat FC Porto 1-0 in quarter-final first legs

England captain Harry Kane scored the decisive goal as FC Bayern Munich secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Real Madrid CF in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.

The encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium produced an intense contest between two European heavyweights, with the German champions taking a slender but valuable advantage into the return leg.

Colombia international Luis Díaz opened the scoring for Bayern moments before half-time after capitalising on a defensive lapse by the Spanish side.

The visitors doubled their lead almost immediately after the restart when Kane found the back of the net just 30 seconds into the second half, giving Bayern a commanding two-goal cushion.

However, Real Madrid responded through French star Kylian Mbappé, who pulled one back to ignite hopes of a comeback for the home side.

Despite sustained pressure from the Spanish giants in the closing stages, Bayern Munich held firm to secure a crucial away victory ahead of the second leg in Germany.

In another quarter-final first-leg match, Arsenal F.C. recorded a narrow 1–0 victory over FC Porto, giving the Premier League side a slim advantage in the tie.

The closely fought encounter saw Arsenal dominate possession for long spells, but the Portuguese side remained disciplined defensively.

The breakthrough eventually came when the Gunners capitalised on a quick attacking move to score the match’s only goal, securing an important away win against Porto.

The result puts Arsenal in a strong position ahead of the second leg in London, as they continue their quest for European glory in the Champions League.

With Bayern Munich and Arsenal both claiming first-leg victories, attention will now shift to the decisive return fixtures, where the remaining semi-final places will be determined.
