Buhari’s Former Aide Lauretta Onochie Declares: Tinubu Is Gone, He Won’t Return in 2027

ABUJA: Former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has launched a blistering political attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that the president has no pathway to securing a second term in 2027.

Onochie, who served under the late former president Muhammadu Buhari as a social media aide and later as chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, made the remarks while addressing supporters at a recent political mobilization event.

In the viral video obtained by Reporters on Friday, she openly distanced herself from Tinubu’s administration and expressed regret for supporting his 2023 presidential bid.

Tinubu has no pathway to return in 2027. He’s gone. We are not saying maybe or maybe not he is gone, Onochie said confidently.

She added that although she voted for Tinubu, she now considers that choice a personal mistake.

He was elected by the people, including me, and shamefully too regrettably too, she confessed.

Onochie also emphasized that her political movement would not adopt what she described as Tinubu supporters’ combative style.

We will work gently. We are not going to be running around or doing whatever they are doing.

We will stand our ground respectfully, without insulting anyone, she told her followers.

She ended her address with a bold prediction:

We will just march on in 2027, and I think by 2027, he will be gone. It is non-negotiable. He is gone already.

Her comments come weeks after Ademola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former vice president Atiku Abubakar, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would face a devastating defeat in 2027 if former president Goodluck Jonathan joins the presidential race.

Speaking on the Mic on Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Olarewaju argued that Jonathan’s entry under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would significantly destabilise the APC’s political base.

If Goodluck Jonathan contests and wins the PDP ticket, then APC loses. APC would have no base in that election, he said.

He added that Atiku remains the strongest figure within Nigeria’s opposition block ahead of 2027.
