Bandits Attack Kogi School; Vigilantes Rescue Students as One Killed

KABBA: Armed bandits stormed Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, triggering panic in the community.

According to information confirmed to Egbe Mekun Parrot, members of the Kiri Vigilante Group mobilised swiftly and confronted the attackers, rescuing all the students who had initially been abducted during the assault.

Community sources confirmed that no student remains in captivity, crediting the success to the rapid response and coordinated action of the local security team.

However, the rescue operation came at a tragic cost. One vigilante member was killed while defending the community. A resident also reported that a Hausa man lost his life during the incident.

The attempted abduction in Kogi comes amid a troubling surge in mass kidnappings across Nigeria’s north-central region.

Since mid-November, more than 400 people mostly schoolchildren have been kidnapped in Niger, Kebbi, Kwara, and Borno states. Some victims have since been rescued or managed to escape.

Recent incidents include the abduction of 24 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi on November 17, and the November 21 attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, Niger State, where over 300 pupils and staff were seized.

The United Nations has condemned the rising wave of abductions, urging the Nigerian government to take all lawful measures to halt the attacks and bring perpetrators to justice.
