Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi have obtained the ₦90 million presidential expression of interest and nomination forms of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
Another presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has also picked up the form, declaring his intention to focus on security, job creation and the rising cost of living if elected.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that the three aspirants had successfully obtained the nomination forms.
“Yes, the three of them Atiku, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have obtained the forms, Abdullahi stated.
Hayatu-Deen received his form from the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and used the occasion to address Nigeria’s worsening economic and security situation.
According to him, the 2027 election should focus on restoring public confidence, rebuilding the economy and addressing insecurity affecting millions of Nigerians.
Nigerians are tired of living in fear. They are tired of watching businesses struggle, jobs disappear, and the cost of basic necessities rise beyond what ordinary people can afford,” he said.
He added that sustainable economic growth could not be achieved in an atmosphere of instability and insecurity.
We cannot build prosperity in an atmosphere of fear and instability. Security is the foundation upon which every strong economy is built, he added.
The ADC fixed May 6 to May 13 for the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms to presidential aspirants.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state House of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
INEC also announced that party primaries and resolution of disputes arising from the exercises would hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
According to the electoral commission, campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will officially begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns are expected to commence on September 9, 2026.
