Asoebi Guest Reveals She Spent ₦2.19 Million to Attend Peller and Jarvis’ Wedding

LAGOS: A Nigerian woman has sparked widespread reactions on social media after revealing that she spent ₦2.19 million to participate as an asoebi guest at the lavish wedding of popular content creators Peller and Jarvis.

The woman, whose detailed spending breakdown has gone viral, disclosed that the huge amount covered everything from clothing and beauty preparations to photography, videography and accommodation, highlighting the rising cost of participating in high-profile Nigerian weddings.

According to her, the asoebi fabric alone cost ₦350,000, while she spent ₦400,000 on a custom-made outfit for the celebration. She also paid ₦300,000 for videography services and ₦200,000 for professional photography to document her experience at the glamorous event.

Her beauty expenses further increased the total bill. She revealed spending ₦100,000 on her hairstyle for a pre-wedding photoshoot and another ₦60,000 for her wedding-day hairstyle. Makeup for the ceremony cost ₦60,000, while she explained that she did not pay for makeup during the earlier studio session.

Accessories also formed a significant part of her preparations. She purchased a handbag for ₦40,000, jewellery worth ₦60,000, earrings costing ₦50,000, and spent another ₦50,000 on manicures and pedicures. In addition, she paid ₦50,000 each time to have her gele professionally tied, undergoing the service twice before the celebrations concluded.

Accommodation was another major expense. According to the woman, members of the bridal party stayed in the same hotel as the bride. Although the room was priced at ₦800,000, she reduced her own financial burden by sharing the accommodation cost with friends.

By the end of the wedding festivities, she calculated her total expenditure at ₦2.19 million, a figure that immediately attracted widespread attention online.

Her disclosure has ignited a heated debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians questioning the growing financial demands associated with luxury weddings.

While some users admired her willingness to invest in the occasion and argued that individuals are free to spend their money as they choose, others criticised what they described as excessive spending for a one-day celebration.

Several commenters expressed disbelief over some of the costs, particularly the charges for the custom outfit, studio shoot, videography and other fashion-related expenses. Others argued that modern weddings have become increasingly driven by social media content, encouraging guests to spend heavily to maintain appearances and create memorable online moments.

The discussion has also reignited concerns about the soaring cost of asoebi culture in Nigeria, where participation in elaborate weddings often involves significant financial commitments for friends and family members.

Meanwhile, the wedding of Peller and Jarvis continues to dominate conversations online, with videos of celebrity guests, fashion displays and behind-the-scenes moments attracting millions of views across social media platforms. As more attendees continue to share their experiences, the event has become one of the country’s biggest entertainment stories of the year.
