The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorism and insecurity across the country or step down from office.
Adeboye made the statement in a video shared on social media platform X on Tuesday, expressing deep concern over the persistent wave of terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and killings affecting various parts of Nigeria.
The respected cleric argued that security chiefs must be held accountable for delivering measurable results in the fight against terrorism, insisting that Nigerians deserve a safer and more secure nation.
According to him, the government should move swiftly and decisively by setting clear performance targets for the nation’s military and security leadership.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would quietly tell the government to move fast and direct the security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” Adeboye stated.
The RCCG leader stressed that merely confronting armed groups was not enough, urging authorities to also identify, expose, and prosecute those financing and supporting terrorist activities.
He maintained that lasting victory against insecurity would remain difficult if the individuals and networks providing resources to criminal groups were allowed to operate freely.
“When giving instructions to the service chiefs, it should be made clear that they are not only expected to eliminate the terrorists but also those sponsoring them, no matter how highly placed or influential they may be,” he added.
Adeboye further revealed that he had previously offered similar advice to a former Nigerian president, recommending a deadline-driven approach to tackling insecurity.
According to him, although the directive was reportedly issued at the time, it was not effectively enforced after the deadline expired, limiting its impact.
The renowned preacher said the experience demonstrated the importance of political will, commitment, and strict implementation of government directives in addressing national security challenges.
His comments come amid growing public concern over rising incidents of terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks across several states, with many Nigerians calling for stronger action from security agencies.
The cleric’s intervention has since generated widespread reactions, with supporters praising his bold stance on insecurity while others continue to debate the role of religious leaders in national affairs.
Adeboye has consistently used his platform to speak on issues affecting the country, frequently calling for peace, good governance, and divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs.
As security concerns continue to dominate public discourse, his latest remarks add to increasing pressure on government authorities to deliver tangible results in the ongoing battle against terrorism and criminality.
