ADC Rejects APC’s Attempt To Shift Blame Over Political Violence In Kebbi State – Isaac Daniel

BIRN-KEBBI:  The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has taken note of the press statement issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing ADC supporters of destroying its campaign signboards and posters in Argungu and Birnin area of Kebbi State recently.

This is contained in a press statement signed and released by Comrade Uthman Jibo, ADC Transport and Logistics Member, Argungu Local Government Area While we believe that every political party has the right to display its campaign materials without intimidation, it is deeply unfortunate that the APC has chosen to address alleged vandalism while remaining silent on the reported attacks against ADC supporters Jibo said.

We find it disturbing that ADC supporters were reportedly attacked, their vehicles vandalized, windscreens smashed, and individuals assaulted in different locations during activities surrounding the reception of the ADC presidential candidate”, he alleged.

“The question is: Why is the APC quick to condemn alleged destruction of its posters but silent about the alleged physical attacks on ADC supporters?”, he queried

“Democracy must not be selective. The safety, rights and political freedom of ADC members deserve the same protection as those of APC members. If the APC genuinely believes in peaceful coexistence and the rule of law, it should demonstrate that commitment through actions rather than carefully worded press statements that appear to shift public attention away from the reported violence, he advised…

We therefore call on the relevant security agencies to conduct an independent, impartial and comprehensive investigation into all reported incidents, including the alleged attacks on ADC supporters, destruction of vehicles and campaign materials, and bring anyone found culpable to justice.

We also wish to remind the APC that political competition is not a declaration of war. No Nigerian should be attacked, intimidated or victimized simply because of their political affiliation. ADC Will Not Be Intimidated!

Our commitment to democratic principles, peaceful political participation and the rule of law remains unwavering, the people of Kebbi State deserve political maturity, accountability and an atmosphere where every citizen can freely support the political movement of their choice without fear.

“Political disagreement is not a license for violence. Democracy must prevail over intimidation Jibo declared.
