ABUJA: A 25-year-old Abuja-based singer, Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has reportedly died after being bitten by a snake at her residence in the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day when the snake allegedly attacked her at home, inflicting a bite that later proved fatal.
Sources said the young artiste made desperate efforts to save her life by seeking urgent medical attention at two different hospitals.
However, she was reportedly unable to receive treatment due to the absence of anti-venom at the health facilities she visited.
Despite repeated attempts to obtain medical help, life-saving medication was said to be unavailable.
Sources further disclosed that this was not the first time snakes had been sighted in or around her residence.
News of Nanyah’s death sparked widespread reactions on social media, with Nigerians expressing shock, grief and anger over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
While some online users speculated about supernatural explanations, no evidence has emerged to support such claims.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor health authorities had issued an official statement on the matter, and it remains unclear whether an investigation has been initiated.
Nanyah, a classical, jazz, R&B and soul singer, was described by friends and fans as a talented and promising artiste who was steadily gaining recognition within Abuja’s music scene.
Her death has once again drawn attention to concerns over Nigeria’s emergency healthcare system, particularly the shortage of critical life-saving drugs such as anti-venom, even within the nation’s capital.
