Severe Ocean Surge and Erosion Threaten Warri Community

WARRI: Pa Menite Afotanju, the Olare-Aja (oldest man) of Ogheye Eghoroke in the Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, has called on the newly inaugurated management committee to bring the federal government’s attention to the severe ocean surge and erosion issues currently affecting the community.

According to Fresh Angle International, the directive was given by Pa. Afotanju on Friday, March 14, during the inauguration of a new 10-member management committee responsible for overseeing the community’s affairs for the next four years.

The committee was formally elected and sworn in at a ceremony held at the Ogheye Eghoroke town hall. The newly appointed Chairman is Johnson Bodor, with Tunde Mikie as Vice Chairman and Lofty Ogbe serving as Secretary.

Other members of the committee include:

  • Henry Nomagho – Public Relations Officer
  • Dolu Ebiejuara – Treasurer
  • Jackson Oritsegbe Jafor – Financial Secretary
  • Morrison Oritsegbemi – Assistant Secretary
  • Ernest Ekpoto, Amos Eduneju, and Elvis Olurinwa Afa Metibemu – Committee Members

In addition Mrs. Caro Utieyin has been appointed as the new Women Leader, while Mrs. Queen Eduneju will serve as Assistant Women Leader.

In his speech, the new Chairman, Johnson Bodor, pledged to unite all factions within the community and work collaboratively with various groups to bring progress to Ogheye Eghoroke. He emphasized that the management committee would prioritize fostering peace and development, ensuring that Ogheye Eghoroke thrives once again.

Bodor expressed his gratitude to Pa. Menite Afotanju, the Council of Elders, and the entire Ogheye Eghoroke community—comprising Utonlila, Ogheye Dimigun, Oboghoro, Jakpa, Eke-Tie, Eke-Kporo, Ebokiti, Ugbege, Orere, and Amamita communities, among others—for their support and participation in the election and inauguration process.

The occasion was filled with celebrations and dancing, as community members rejoiced, viewing the event as a sign of hope and positive change for the future of Ogheye Eghoroke.
