AKWA IBOM: Following the death of Patience Eno, the first lady of Akwa Ibom State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has agreed to postpone their political campaign for the state’s local elections.
Political parties have been campaigning for votes ahead of the October 26 local elections in Akwa Ibom.
Ini Emembong, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Akwa Ibom, issued a statement on Friday morning stating that Mrs. Eno died in a hospital on Thursday after an unexplained illness.
On September 26, 2024, she died away peacefully in the hospital in the presence of her family.

The family ask for kindhearted people’s prayers and support during this trying time, and they submit all to God’s will.
The family will offer more information as needed. The family respectfully asks for privacy at this time of loss for their mother, grandma, and loving wife.
In spite of such an important loss, His Excellency, Governor Pastor Umo Eno reassures all the residents that his commitment to the state’s duty remains steadfast. He also expresses gratitude to everyone who has supported the first family during this time.
The state’s PDP publicity secretary, Edwin Ebiese, issued a statement on Friday announcing the campaigns’ suspension. This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in a state of shock,” he added.
In his statement, he said we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.
We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause and appreciate the understanding of our supporters and the general public during this difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State and his immediate family, the government, and people of Akwa Ibom State.
May God grant the family of the deceased and our state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
