Liverpool Complete £116m Transfer for Bayer Leverkusen Star Florian Wirtz

LIVERPOOL: Premier League champions Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign German midfielder Florian Wirtz in a club-record £116 million deal.

The transfer agreement includes an initial payment of £100 million, with £16 million in performance-related add-ons, potentially making it a British transfer record if the conditions are met.

The total figure surpasses Chelsea’s £107 million signing of Enzo Fernandez and is on par with Moises Caicedo’s £115 million deal, making it one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history.

Leverkusen had earlier rejected two bids from Liverpool, holding out for £126 million, but eventually agreed to the revised terms.

The 22-year-old playmaker attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, but chose a move to Anfield.

This move marks Liverpool’s second major signing of the summer, following the acquisition of Wirtz’s former teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

New head coach Arne Slot is also reportedly targeting Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as part of the club’s squad revamp.

If Wirtz’s impact leads to success under Slot, the bonus clauses could be triggered, setting a new benchmark for British football transfers.
