LAGOS: The publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, will be buried on Friday, September 11, 2026, his family has announced.
Oladipo, a veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
The burial arrangements were contained in a statement signed on Friday by the Publicity Secretary of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Kemi Yesufu, and made available to Rapidospace News Online.
According to the family, a service of songs will be held on Thursday, September 10, at DayStar Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
The burial service will take place at the same venue on Friday, September 11, after which the late journalist will be laid to rest.
Oladipo was reportedly in his usual state of health earlier on the day of his death before he suddenly became ill at his office.
His death was subsequently described as a shock by colleagues, friends and associates at Premium Eagle Media Limited, the parent company of The Eagle Online.
Until his death, Oladipo served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited.
He was also a prominent figure in Nigeria’s growing online publishing industry and played an active role in the development of professional standards among digital publishers.
Oladipo served as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers from 2017 to 2021.
According to GOCOP, he was one of the foundational members who contributed significantly to the development of the association during its formative years.
The guild’s President, Danlami Nmodu, described Oladipo as an important figure in the growth of online journalism and publishing in Nigeria.
“Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered,” Nmodu said.
He added that Oladipo combined an understanding of journalism with knowledge of the business side of publishing.
“Dotun understood journalism, and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria, and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing, he said.
Oladipo’s death has continued to attract tributes from members of Nigeria’s media community, particularly colleagues who worked with him during the development of the country’s online journalism sector.
His burial on September 11 is expected to bring together family members, friends, journalists, media executives and other associates to honour his life and legacy.
