ASABA: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday joined Deltans in giving thanks to God as Delta State marked its 35th anniversary with a special Thanksgiving Service at the Government House Chapel in Asaba.
The service provided an opportunity for reflection on Delta State’s journey since its creation, while also offering prayers for continued peace, unity, stability and development across the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to God for sustaining Delta over the past 35 years and acknowledged the contributions of past governors, traditional institutions, communities and citizens to the growth and development of the state.
The governor described the 35th anniversary as a historic milestone and an opportunity to celebrate the achievements recorded over the years while honouring the visionaries and leaders who laid the foundation for Delta’s development.
Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining development and investing in critical sectors of the state’s economy.
He listed infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture and technology among the areas receiving continued attention from his administration.
According to the governor, the administration is also focused on strengthening institutions and creating an environment capable of attracting businesses, investors and opportunities for young people across Delta.
Oborevwori said the task before the government was not merely to preserve the achievements inherited from previous administrations but to build on them and create a stronger foundation for future generations.
We must build a Delta that is more prosperous, secure, inclusive and competitive,” the governor said.
He urged Deltans to remain united and committed to transforming the state’s abundant human and natural resources into sustainable economic opportunities.
The governor also called for continued peace and collective responsibility among citizens, stressing that the development of Delta requires the participation and support of all residents.
As the state celebrates 35 years of existence, Oborevwori said the occasion should inspire renewed commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive Delta.
He encouraged Deltans to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence and cooperation as the state moves into another phase of its development.
The Thanksgiving Service therefore served not only as a celebration of Delta’s past but also as an opportunity to look ahead with renewed hope and determination for greater prosperity.
