LAGOS: Popular Nigerian DJ Salt, sister of Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, has unveiled a brand-new Mercedes-Benz weeks after revealing that her previous car was damaged by area boys in Lagos.
The DJ shared photos of the new vehicle on Instagram, describing it as her “new toy” while posing with the luxury car.
Salt’s latest post has attracted attention because it comes shortly after she disclosed that her previous vehicle was damaged during an encounter with suspected area boys who allegedly mistook her for her famous sister.
Salt had previously spoken about the incident while reacting to concerns raised online over alleged harassment of motorists by agberos, commonly referred to as area boys, in parts of Lagos.
According to Salt, her vehicle was damaged during the encounter, with those involved repeatedly shouting “Ayra Starr” because they reportedly believed she was the singer.
She described the experience as upsetting, particularly because of the mistaken identity.
The incident came amid a wider online conversation about motorists allegedly being stopped and pressured to give money in some parts of Lagos.
Media personality Tunde Ednut had also criticised the alleged practice, claiming that drivers of expensive vehicles were sometimes targeted and that motorists who refused to give money could face threats of having their vehicles damaged.
Weeks after recounting the incident, Salt has now given her followers a glimpse of her latest Mercedes-Benz.
In the Instagram post, the DJ posed alongside the luxury vehicle and referred to it as her “new toy.”
However, she did not disclose whether the Mercedes was specifically purchased to replace the vehicle damaged during the earlier incident.
She also did not reveal the purchase price or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the acquisition.
DJ Salt is publicly known as the sister of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, but she has also developed her own identity within Nigeria’s entertainment industry as a disc jockey.
Her connection to the award-winning singer has, however, occasionally drawn public attention, including during the reported Lagos incident in which she said she was mistaken for Ayra Starr.
Salt’s unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz has now generated fresh interest online, with the timing of the post linking it to her earlier account of the damaged vehicle.
The development also comes against the backdrop of continuing public discussions about alleged harassment of motorists by agberos and area boys in Lagos.
