Lagos State: The Nigeria police force, Lagos command have summoned three officers for allegedly extorting N1m from National Youth Service corps (NYSC) members in the Surulere area of Lagos state.
Footage of the encounter between the corps members and officers had made the rounds on social media late Friday.
A social media user Oluyemi Fasipe who shared the videos on various social media platform, claimed the police officers extort the sum of N1m from the corps members
Dear @BenHundeyin, Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from three corps members,” he wrote on Friday. “They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed.
The lack of an actual driver’s license copy was their offense. This is wicked!Police officers were seen searching through the paperwork of the car’s passengers in one of the videos. Later, as events got heated, more officers were called to the scene.
Later, when they were being asked to stop filming the event, an officer was seen entering inside the car. Furthermore, he banned them from contacting their loved ones.
However, all those engaged in the event have been summoned, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command.
The men have been summoned in, and their trial has begun,” he wrote on Fasipe’s post on X.
