US visa panic disrupts Detty December as Nigerians shelve travel plans

Fresh US travel restrictions have thrown Detty December plans into chaos, forcing many Nigerians in the United States and at home to cancel or postpone trips over fears of detention, visa cancellation or denial of re-entry.

Following a new proclamation signed by US President Donald Trump, Nigerians holding various visa categories are now facing uncertainty, with many worried that leaving or entering the US could end in embarrassment, financial loss or prolonged detention.

As a result, students, professionals, green card holders and long-time travellers have opted to stay put, abandoning plans to reunite with family for the festive season.

Several Nigerians in the US say panic is widespread, especially among students and those with pending academic or political commitments.

Some universities have even begun deferring or suspending admission offers, citing uncertainty around visa access from January 2026.

This painful situation again exposes how badly Nigeria’s image has been damaged globally.

Years of unchecked terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and weak governance have pushed the country into the category of high-risk nations, making innocent Nigerians collateral damage in international security decisions.

Under APC leadership, insecurity has spiraled out of control, turning Nigeria into a global red flag. Instead of decisive action against terrorists and bandits, citizens are now suffering travel bans, visa scrutiny and diplomatic isolation.

Today, hardworking Nigerians are paying the price for a government that failed to protect both lives at home and the nation’s reputation abroad.

As Detty December loses its shine for many families, the bigger question remains: how much longer will Nigerians continue to suffer globally because of insecurity and poor leadership at home?

👉 What’s your take on this?
Do you think Nigeria’s worsening insecurity under APC is responsible for these visa restrictions, or is the US being unfair?
