Trump Urges JD Vance to Seek Exit From Iran War Ahead of Pakistan Peace Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly directed his Vice President, JD Vance, to explore ways of ending the ongoing conflict with Iran, as diplomatic efforts intensify.

Vance is expected to depart on April 10 for high-level peace talks in Islamabad, where he will lead U.S. efforts to negotiate a resolution to the crisis.

The vice president, known for his skepticism toward prolonged foreign military engagements, will spearhead mediated discussions aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tehran.

He will be joined by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, both of whom previously participated in indirect negotiations with Iranian officials.

Those earlier talks focused on concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile programme, and its backing of proxy groups across the Middle East.

Iran has also dispatched a high-level delegation to the talks, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The meeting comes at a fragile moment, with a temporary ceasefire reportedly on the brink of collapse.

Adding to the strain, Trump recently accused Iran of failing to honour commitments regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route.

In a post on Truth Social, the president wrote: That is not the agreement we have! signalling growing frustration within the U.S. administration.

The upcoming talks in Islamabad are seen as a crucial opportunity to de-escalate tensions and possibly chart a path toward ending the conflict.

However, with distrust lingering on both sides and the ceasefire weakening, the outcome remains uncertain.
