Tragedy Hits Lagos Politics as Coker-Aguda Council Manager Adebimpe Akintola Dies — Fifth Female LG Official in Two Months

AGUDA: Lagos politics has again been thrown into mourning following the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, the Council Manager of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Akintola, who also doubled as Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, reportedly died on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness.

Her colleagues described her as a diligent and hardworking administrator whose passing has left a deep vacuum in grassroots governance.

A statement issued by council officials on Monday evening confirmed the sad news, noting that her demise came as a heavy blow to the entire LCDA. Staff members of the council were seen in shock and grief following the announcement.

In line with Islamic rites, Akintola’s burial is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with prayers at Al Kitab Mosque, Eleshin, before interment at Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.

Her death marks the fifth loss of a female local government official in Lagos State within just two months. Others who recently passed away include:

  • Oluwakemi Rufai, Councillor, Ibeju Lekki

  • Zainab Shotayo, Councillor, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA

  • Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA

  • Basirat Mayabikan, Councillor, Somolu

Reacting to the development, Lagos State APC spokesman Seye Oladejo described Akintola’s passing as another sad incident, while praising her legacy of dedication to grassroots service and governance.

The repeated deaths of female local government officials have stirred concerns across political circles in Lagos, with calls for prayers and deeper reflection on the welfare of public office holders.
