Terrorist Threat Letters Trigger Panic, Displacement in Kwara State Communities

ILORIN: Suspected terrorists have reportedly circulated threatening letters to several rural communities in Kwara State, causing fear, temporary displacement and heightened security operations across affected areas.

Residents of Ira, Inaja and Aho began relocating after one of the warning letters was discovered at a motorcycle park near a central mosque.

Local leaders said the message warned of possible attacks, referencing previous violence in nearby settlements. Authorities have not yet verified the authenticity of the letter.

The development follows earlier security concerns in parts of the state, including a deadly attack on Woro community earlier in February that left many casualties and abductees, intensifying public anxiety.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Army, have stepped up patrols and intelligence operations in the affected areas. Officials say investigations are ongoing to determine the source and credibility of the threats.

Traditional rulers and local authorities have also convened emergency meetings, urging residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with security operatives.

Reports indicate that schools, farms and businesses in some communities have temporarily shut down due to panic. Many residents are staying indoors, relocating to nearby towns, or relying on prayer and local vigilante efforts for reassurance.

Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been urged by community leaders to strengthen security presence and support preventive measures to avoid possible attacks.
