LAGOS:Team Brazil has emerged victorious at the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, claiming their first-ever win in the global all-electric powerboat racing series after a dominant performance on Sunday.
Powered by their pole position from Saturday’s qualifying, Brazilian pilot Timmy Hansen led the team to victory, navigating through the group races, race-offs, and the grand finale to secure the top spot.
Team Brazil finished ahead of Team Blue Rising, who came second, while Team Drogba claimed third place. Championship frontrunners Team Rafa and Team Brady failed to make the podium, leaving the title race wide open ahead of the season finale.
The Lagos win earned Team Brazil 38 championship points, bringing their total to 89 till short of the leaders but enough to boost their chances in the final race of the season scheduled for Miami next month.
The E1 Lagos GP marked a significant milestone as Lagos became the first African city to host the groundbreaking E1 World Championship, often described as the Formula One of the Seas.
The E1 series, which debuted last year in Jeddah, is the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship, combining cutting-edge technology, environmental sustainability, and high-speed marine competition.
The championship was co-founded by Alejandro Agag, the visionary behind Formula E and Extreme E, alongside Rodi Basso, a former Formula One engineer.
Their goal is to promote clean energy innovation and inspire global investment in eco-friendly marine transport through sport and entertainment.
With the Lagos GP successfully concluded, attention now turns to Miami, where the season’s final race will determine the first-ever E1 world champions.
