Soludo Wins Re-election, Hails Tinubu, INEC for Conducting Nigeria’s Gold Standard Election

AWKA: Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been re-elected for a second term after securing a landslide victory in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, which he described as the most credible and transparent in the state’s history.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results on Sunday at its state headquarters in Awka.

The Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, declared Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner with 422,664 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes, while other candidates trailed far behind.

The election, held on November 8, 2025, was widely adjudged peaceful and well-organised, with high voter enthusiasm compared to the 2021 polls that first brought Soludo to power.

Addressing reporters in Awka after his victory was announced, Soludo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing an enabling environment that guaranteed a credible and peaceful election. He described Tinubu as “a true democrat committed to the deepening of Nigeria’s electoral process.

The people have spoken, and their votes counted. I thank INEC, especially its new Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan. Your first major test was a resounding success.

Since 2017, INEC’s experiments with technology have improved steadily, and this election is the best we’ve had so far in Anambra, Soludo said.

He praised INEC’s ICT team for ensuring transparency through the real-time upload of results on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, noting that as of midnight, over 99 per cent of polling unit results were available online for all to verify.

Soludo expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra for renewing his mandate, dedicating his victory to the resilient spirit of Ndi Anambra.

He described the outcome as a “historic mandate that reflected public confidence in his administration’s developmental agenda.

Four years ago, voter turnout was low, and we won with about 112,000 votes. This time, participation rose above 20 per cent for the first time in our history, and you re-elected us with 73 per cent of total votes cast. I am humbled by this overwhelming support,” he stated.

The governor reiterated his resolve to accelerate ongoing reforms in infrastructure, education, security, and local governance, adding that his administration would “move into high gear” to consolidate on gains achieved in the past four years.

We applied for this job; you renewed our contract. With this renewed trust, we will deliver more. Now that the people have spoken, it’s time to get to work. Ndi Anambra, you haven’t seen anything yet, he said.

Soludo also congratulated his fellow contestants, urging them to put politics aside and join hands in advancing the progress of Anambra.

Sixteen of us contested, but only one can win. In the Anambra way, we may fight fiercely during campaigns, but we reconcile afterward. I invite all my opponents to collaborate with us for the greater good of our dear state,” he said.

The governor thanked party supporters, traditional leaders, and youth volunteers for their dedication to peaceful participation during the exercise.

Election observers and civil society groups also commended INEC for the smooth conduct of the poll, noting improved logistics, better-trained officials, and real-time result transmission as major successes that strengthened public trust in the process.

With this victory, Soludo joins the short list of Nigerian governors re-elected under regional parties, reaffirming APGA’s dominance in Anambra State since 2006.
