Sanwo-Olu Calls on Residents to Join Historic E1 Lagos Grand Prix

IKEJA: Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents and visitors to participate in the forthcoming E1 Lagos Grand Prix, Africa’s first-ever all-electric powerboat championship, scheduled for October 3–5, 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the governor described the event as a landmark occasion for Lagos and the continent, highlighting its role in promoting innovation, sustainability, and international recognition for the city.

“The E1 Lagos Grand Prix is a demonstration of progress, showing how sport can drive sustainable solutions for the future. It also celebrates the creativity and resilience that define our people, Sanwo-Olu said.

According to him, the championship will position Lagos as a welcoming and dynamic city, ready to embrace modern opportunities, while placing Africa on the global sporting stage.

The E1 Series is the world’s first electric powerboat competition, with Lagos joining other prestigious host cities such as Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah.

Organisers say the event will feature some of the fastest electric boats on the planet, while also helping Lagos carve its identity as the continent’s aquatic capital.

Sanwo-Olu encouraged the public to secure tickets via www.e1lagos.com, stressing that the event would not only boost tourism and entertainment but also reaffirm the city’s commitment to sustainable innovation.
