ABUJA: The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has called for a more comprehensive approach to tackling insecurity in Nigeria, stressing that the fight against violent crimes and terrorism cannot be won by bullets alone.
Ribadu made this known during the commissioning of Phase One of the Qatar Charity Sanabil Project and the distribution of housing units in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He praised the Kaduna State Government for adopting a balanced strategy in addressing its security issues through both kinetic (military) and non-kinetic (non-military) means.
According to him, the Kaduna model where social investments and peacebuilding initiatives are combined with military operations should serve as a template for other states facing similar security threats.
He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved by addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, illiteracy, and lack of access to basic amenities.
The fight against insecurity must extend beyond the battlefield. It should include investment in communities, provision of social infrastructure, and collaboration with civil society and religious organizations, Ribadu said.
He added that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has been working closely with the Kaduna State Government to pursue a dual strategy involving both hard and soft power.
The idea is to win the hearts and minds of our people, not just through force, but through development and inclusion. What Kaduna is doing with the Qatar Charity Project is a practical example of non-kinetic efforts that bring real change to affected communities, Ribadu explained.
The Qatar Charity Sanabil Project includes the construction of houses and community infrastructure aimed at resettling internally displaced persons and restoring livelihoods in conflict-affected areas.
The initiative has been widely praised for its impact on rebuilding trust and stability in the region.
Ribadu urged other states and stakeholders to adopt similar approaches, saying Nigeria must invest in peace building, education, and community development as essential tools in its broader national security framework.
