ASABA: Members of the Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State, relatives of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, have given her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, a 48-hour ultimatum to accept the return of the bride price paid on her.
In an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi and addressed to the senator, the group accused Nwoko of using his influence to harass and intimidate members of Regina’s family, in violation of local customs.
According to the letter, the Ogwashi-Uku tradition allows a woman to end her marriage by returning the bride price, after which the husband must formally accept it.
The family claimed they had made multiple attempts to refund the payment, but that the senator had allegedly refused to receive it.
If he continues to reject the money, it will be placed at the Ikeleke Quarter in Ogwashi-Uku a symbolic act that signifies the end of the union under our tradition, the statement read.
The community further condemned what they described as the unlawful arrest and intimidation of Regina’s relatives, insisting that such actions were disrespectful to their cultural values.
The letter, which surfaced online through Regina’s brother, Sweezzy, and actor Stanley Ontop, urged Senator Nwoko to allow peace to prevail by respecting local customs and ensuring the release of those allegedly detained.
Earlier this week, Regina Daniels alleged that her estranged husband ordered the arrest of her brother and sister after she refused to return to his home.
Regina Daniels and Senator Nwoko married in 2019 and share two sons. As of press time, the senator had not issued a public response to the community’s letter.
