Tinubu appoint former Lagos commissioner Olatunji Bello as new CEO of FCCPC

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Olatunji Bello as the new Director General and Executive Vice President of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, made this announcement on Monday.

Bello’s appointment is pending Senate confirmation. The President has expressed his expectation that Bello will fully implement the FCCPC’s mandate, focusing on protecting the interests of Nigerian consumers, promoting their well-being, and ensuring the country’s safety and quality of goods and services.

 

 

Mr. Bello is a lawyer, administrator, and noted journalist. He previously served as Secretary to the Lagos State Government and holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos. He studied Law at the same university and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

Mr. Bello began his journalism career at Concord Newspapers in 1985, where he held positions such as Group Political Editor, Editor of Sunday Concord, and Editor of National Concord. He is a recipient of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and was appointed Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001. Additionally, he served as Commissioner for the Environment under various administrations in Lagos State.

The President expects the new Chief Executive of this important agency to ensure the comprehensive realization of the Commission’s mandate, which includes protecting and promoting the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers and ensuring the safety and quality of goods and services, the statement said.
