KANO: The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
The arrests followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and were executed through an intelligence-led operation supervised by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21.
They were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between 10 pm on Saturday and 4 am on Sunday.
According to the police, investigations revealed that Auwalu, a nephew of the deceased woman, was the mastermind behind the killings and had confessed to the crime.
He also reportedly admitted involvement in previous violent attacks, including the murder and burning of two housewives in the Tudun Yola area of Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a locally made club known as gora, cash, and other dangerous weapons.
The police command commended its operatives for their swift response and thanked residents for their cooperation, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and that justice will be served.
