LAGOS: Reality TV star Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has reacted to a viral video showing her involved in a physical altercation at an Abuja hotel earlier this week.
The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a ₦200,000 debt dispute, occurred on Tuesday and quickly escalated from a private argument in Phyna’s hotel room to a heated confrontation in the hotel lobby.
A 20-second clip of the clash, widely shared across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), shows the former BBNaija winner in a scuffle with an unidentified woman as onlookers tried to intervene.
Addressing the controversy on Wednesday night via Instagram, Phyna denied being at fault or overpowered in the incident, insisting she acted in self-defense.
Who I beat dey hospital, dem carry touts come fight and people to record, she wrote in Pidgin English, alleging that the viral footage was deliberately edited to misrepresent what happened.
Phyna also claimed that the woman she fought with was hospitalised, adding:
I was attacked from behind on my way out. Dem even crop the video just to twist story say dem beat me. Make una rest! The girl wey I beat never even regain consciousness. Una dey mad! Pray for me make who I beat no die abeg.
She further accused the unnamed woman of theft, stating, I no get joy for anybody when I know say dem dey thief from me.
The hotel incident comes barely two months after Phyna lost her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, who died in a fatal truck accident in August 2025.
