ABUJA: Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. Clarita Ogar, the LP’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency in Cross River State.
In a statement shared on his official X handle on Friday, Obi described Ogar’s death as a painful and untimely loss. He revealed that he had reached out to her family just days earlier and was informed of the tragic news.
I want to again sincerely offer my condolences on behalf of my family and the Obidient family, Obi wrote. @clarita_ogar was not just a patriot but also a fearless woman who stood for justice and a better Nigeria.
May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may God give her family and all of us the fortitude to bear her irreplaceable loss.
Hon. Ogar was a committed grassroots politician and one of the most vocal female figures within the Obidient Movement a progressive political platform championed by young Nigerians and supporters of Peter Obi.
She was notably among the witnesses who testified at the 2023 presidential election tribunal, where she upheld the call for electoral transparency and democratic reform.
Born in 1985 in Benue State, Ogar had her early education at Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi, before obtaining a degree in Political Science from the University of Abuja and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Lagos.
A passionate advocate for women in politics, Ogar also served briefly as a local government councillor under the Labour Party. She is survived by her husband and a young child.
Her death is a significant blow to her family, the Labour Party, and the Obidient Movement
