Ogun Gateway Airport Commences Operations With First Commercial Flight to Abuja

IPERU: Ogun State has officially joined Nigeria’s aviation network as the Gateway International Airport launched its maiden commercial flight on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The inaugural ValueJet Airlines service departed for Abuja, marking a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure and air transport development.

The successful takeoff of the first commercial flight signals that the new airport is fully ready for passenger operations.

ValueJet Airlines becomes the first carrier to operate scheduled services from the facility, with flights expected to run twice weekly every Tuesday and Thursday linking Ogun State directly with the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had earlier granted the airport an Aerodrome Operational Permit in August, officially clearing it for commercial use.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed delight over the commencement of operations, describing the Gateway International Airport as a symbol of Ogun’s rapid infrastructural growth.

He noted that the project would not only boost the state’s economy but also attract investors and promote tourism.

An APC leader also hailed the development, calling it further proof of Ogun State’s commitment to modern infrastructure and economic transformation.

The state government says the commencement of commercial flights will improve regional connectivity, enhance business opportunities, and provide residents with easier access to air travel.

Plans are already underway to introduce more routes and expand services in the coming months.
