NELFUND Disburses ₦392m Student Loans to DELSU Beneficiaries

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has released ₦392,876,550 in student loans to Delta State University, Abraka, supporting 1,854 students under the Federal Government’s education financing programme.

According to the fund, the disbursement aims to ease financial burdens on students and help them concentrate on their academic work.

The university confirmed receipt of the funds in a January 20, 2026 acknowledgment letter signed by Registrar Rufina Ufiofio on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Samuel Asagba, who praised the initiative for improving access to higher education.

NELFUND reported continued progress since launching its student loan portal in May 2024, with over 1.6 million applications received and 983,706 students benefiting so far. As of February 1, 2026, total disbursement under the scheme had reached ₦183.9 billion ₦107.1 billion for institutional tuition fees across 265 schools and ₦76.8 billion for student upkeep allowances.

The loans are interest-free, covering tuition paid directly to institutions alongside monthly stipends. Repayment is scheduled to begin two years after completion of the National Youth Service Corps, with provisions for loan forgiveness in cases of death or permanent disability.

Applications for the 2025/2026 academic session remain open until February 27, 2026, as authorities continue encouraging eligible students to apply.
