Military Uncovers Boko Haram Underground Logistics Facility in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics storage facility stocked with fuel, medical supplies and other critical materials during coordinated offensives in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State.

The discovery followed intelligence-led operations carried out on Sunday in the Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma communities, where troops overran several terrorist enclaves and repelled multiple drone attacks launched by insurgents.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, the operations were conducted under Operation Desert Sanity and resulted in the destruction of several Boko Haram and ISWAP camps, significantly degrading the groups’ logistical and operational capabilities in the axis.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle, the statement read.

Lt. Col. Sani said the troops advanced from their harbour areas and carried out deliberate clearance operations based on actionable intelligence, with support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

He explained that sustained Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance by the air component ensured real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred reinforcements and enhanced the effectiveness of ground operations.

During the operations, troops recovered items of military and logistical value, including Baofeng radios, mobile phones, five AK-47 magazines, rounds of 7.62×39mm special ammunition, 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition and links of 12.7×108mm ammunition.

Other items recovered include Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, diesel-powered grinding machines, large quantities of medical supplies, bags of grains, a pick-up truck, an underground logistics storage facility, as well as a petroleum and oil lubricant dump.

Lt. Col. Sani said the recoveries further weakened the terrorists’ capacity to sustain attacks and movement within the area.

He disclosed that during the advance, troops came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists around midday and later in the evening, but both attempts were successfully repelled.

“Despite the attacks, troops-maintained momentum and continued the offensive, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area, he said.

He added that although the security situation in the area remained unpredictable, troop morale was high and forces were maintaining a high level of vigilance.

The military high command, he said, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the operations until terrorist threats are eliminated, civilians protected and lasting peace restored in the North-East
