MARCHESTER: Prof. Celestine Iwendi is a leading Nigerian-born artificial intelligence scholar and the Head of the Centre of Intelligence of Things (CIoTh) at the University of Bolton, UK. His work sits at the intersection of AI, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, and medical data privacy, making him one of the most influential researchers shaping next-generation intelligent systems.
Iwendi studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, earned additional postgraduate qualifications at Uppsala University in Sweden, and later obtained his PhD in Electronics Engineering from the University of Aberdeen.
His academic career spans institutions across the UK and beyond. He currently serves as Professor of Artificial Intelligence and has held major global leadership roles, including Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Election Committee (2024) and IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2025–2026.
