JAMB Panel Exposes 4,251 Fingerprint Manipulations, 190 AI-Assisted Cheats In 2025 UTME

LAGOS: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Special Committee on Examination Infractions (SCEIi) has uncovered large-scale technology-driven malpractice in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), warning that organised fraud threatens the integrity of Nigeria’s admission process.

Presenting its report in Abuja, the committee’s chairman, Jake Epelle, revealed that investigators detected 4,251 cases of fingerprint manipulation (finger blending) and 192 instances of AI-assisted impersonation through image morphing.

The probe also documented 1,878 false disability claims, forged credentials, multiple National Identification Number (NIN) registrations, and collusion between candidates and examination syndicates.

The panel, inaugurated on August 18, was tasked with probing the rise in infractions, reviewing JAMB’s systems, and recommending reforms.

Epelle described the malpractice network as highly organised, technology-driven, and dangerously normalised, adding that parents, tutorial centres, schools, and some CBT operators were complicit. He also noted that weak legal frameworks continue to undermine enforcement.

To curb the trend, the committee urged JAMB to deploy AI-powered biometric anomaly detectors, real-time monitoring, and a central Examination Security Operations Centre to safeguard future examinations.
