iPhone 17 Sales Surge 14% Above iPhone 16 in Early China and U.S. Launches

BEIJING: Apple’s latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone 17 series, has outpaced its predecessor in early sales across China and the United States, according to new data from research firm Counterpoint.

The report shows that the iPhone 17 models sold 14% more units during the first 10 days of release compared to the iPhone 16 lineup, underscoring Apple’s strong start in two of its most important markets.

Counterpoint’s analysis revealed that the base model iPhone 17 nearly doubled its early sales in China relative to the iPhone 16 during the same launch window, helping Apple regain momentum in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

Across both China and the U.S., total sales of the base model rose 31%.

“The base model iPhone 17 is very compelling to consumers, offering great value for money,” said Mengmeng Zhang, a senior analyst at Counterpoint.

A better chip, improved display, higher base storage, and a selfie camera upgrade all for the same price as last year’s iPhone 16, make it a strong choice.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) rolled out the iPhone 17 series globally in September, with features such as an upgraded A18 chip, improved battery efficiency, and camera enhancements aimed at driving replacement demand.

Analysts note that Apple’s strong early sales could help offset slowing global smartphone growth, especially in China, where the company has faced stiff competition from local brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor.

The iPhone 17’s early success signals renewed consumer confidence in Apple’s product lineup ahead of the holiday season a crucial period for global smartphone makers.
